Empowered Freak Human Magus Robot

You were gifted or cursed with fabulous powers. Whether you were bitten by a radioactive werewolf, exposed to zeta radiation, or born the offspring of some Olympian god, you have capabilities far beyond those of common men and women.

Empowered come in all the varieties that humans do and more. They have a tendency to be among the tall end of the human range, but there are those who aren’t. Some have unusual coloration, such as yellow eyes, green skin, or blue hair. These characteristics are often related to their powers (like a bald telepath or a white-haired cold-controller).

Some empowered are members of a specific subrace or even an offshoot of humanity. Whatever the case, it's a good idea to know where your hero's powers come from.

When selecting this race, check with the GM to see what sort of empowered characters exist in the game world and what's appropriate for the title. You could be playing in a world where all the empowered received their gifts from exposure to a toxic mist that killed many others. Or, all empowered could be the descendants of a long-dead alien race. There could be a subrace of empowered that faces strong prejudice.

Once you've considered your options, apply the following traits to your character and record them on your character sheet.


Empowered Traits

Your empowered character has an assortment of innate super-human abilities.

Ability Score Increase. You may increase two ability scores of your choice by 1 or one ability score by 2. (Your subrace also grants an ability score increase. You can add 1 from this benefit to that ability score, but not 2.)

Age. Most empowered age like their human kin, reaching adulthood in their late teens and living less than a century.

Alignment. Empowered tend toward the extremes of good and evil, becoming great heroes or dreadful villains.

Size. The empowered tend to be tall and muscular, though this isn't universally true. Regardless of stature, your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice. Empowered typically learn the languages of other peoples they deal with, particularly those associated with their origins.

Irresistible Power. Once per long rest, you can spend a Hero Point to double your proficiency bonus in regard to your power save or power check with a super-power.


Empowered Subraces

Monstrous Empowered


A monstrous empowered is a monstrous being in appearance with powers born of its physiology.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score is increased by 1.

Frightful Appearance. You have advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks when the subject can see you.

Beastly Physiology. Choose one of the following:

  • Beastly Toughness: Your hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 every time you gain a level.
  • Damage Resistance: You have resistance to one damage type of your choice which fits within your power concept.
  • Darkvision: You have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
  • Keen Hearing and Smell: You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.

Supreme Empowered


A supreme empowered appears as an attractive human, but it's something much more.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score is increased by 1.

Blood of the Ancients. When using powers, you often need to make power checks. You can reroll 1s on these power checks. You can only reroll a power save or power check once in this way.

Thematic Powers. Your powers follow a logical theme. You might have psychic abilities like telepathy and telekinesis, fiery powers like ember blast and fiery flight, or physical augmentations like super-strength and iron hide. You cannot have fiery flight and telepathy, as these powers are not connected by a common theme.

If you're uncertain about the thematic connection of powers, ask your GM for guidance.

Bonus Proficiency. You gain a bonus skill or tool proficiency of your choice.
